different fan pages on Facebook that promise these lavish gift cards. To get your card, all you need to do is fill out a credit assessment as well as give up other personal information. This leaves your computer open to malware, spyware, and other attacks that can cripple your computer system.

Recently, Whole Foods Market has been under attack by scammers who spread the fake fan page virally through facebook. Fan pages continue to pop up with names like “Whole Foods Market Free $500 Gift Card Limited -first 12,000 fans only” and “Whole Foods FREE $500 Gift Card! Only Available for 36 Hours” according to a report by CNET. However, as soon as these pages are taken down more seem to pop up.

How to Avoid Facebook Gift Card Scams

  1. If it seems too good to be true, it is.
  2. Always check the retailers homepage. Whole Foods only announces contests on their website.
  3. Look out for the red flags highlighted in the image.

    Visa gift card is a scam. Visa charges a $3.95 to purchase the card and another $ 3.95 fee to “activate” it. Your recipient receives only $21 of a $25 card, and Visa makes THIRTY PERCENT. Don’t by the card. Send a check.
