GiftCardRescue vs CardWoo Review

Over the last three years, we at have watched gift card exchange sites come and go. Usually, these new sites begin by making claims and promises,  only to fizzle out a few months later . One of the new sites to launch recently is Cardwoo. We have received calls from customers about Cardwoo’s service and we would like to clarify for our customers the difference between our business model and what Cardwoo is offering.

Payment: When looking to sell gift cards, CardWoo simply asks you to send in your cards and once received, they’ll send you a check in the mail. The problem with this model is there is no guarantee as to how much you will receive for your gift card.

At GiftCardRescue, we tell you upfront how much you will get for your gift card. With CardWoo, this could mean you may only receive 50% of your card’s value. GiftCardRescue averages between 75-80% payout for gift cards to a max of 90%. Not only does GiftCardRescue care most about getting customers the most money for their gift cards, we also want customers informed about their choices before doing business with us.

Shipping: The main selling point CardWoo uses to market their brand is the fact that they pay all shipping costs in the process. While this is great, transactions take much longer since you have to wait for their packaging to come in the mail. A GiftCardRescue transaction can be completed in the time it takes for a CardWoo package to reach their facility.

Inventory: Both GiftCardRescue and CardWoo offer a wide selection of gift card merchants for customers to choose from. However, at GiftCardRescue, we buy and sell gift cards from over 300 national merchants. In addition, we are the only site that buys and sells bank issued gift cards, like Visa, American Express and Mastercard. These options are great because they can be used at nearly every retailer.

While both companies are valid options for selling and buying gift cards, we at GiftCardRescue believe in providing the best gift card experience offered. Through outstanding customer service, competitive pricing, and proven consumer satisfation, we look to earn each and every one of our customer’s trust and build great relationships for future business.

But don’t just take our word for it. Visit our testimonials page to see what real customers are saying about our service (see one of those testimonials below). Also see Gift Card Rescue reviews in the Wall Street Journal, CNBC, The New York Times and others have all recommended

Interview with Kwame Kuadey, CEO & Founder

Welcome Kwame Kuadey please take a second to introduce yourself, explain the man behind GiftCardRescue.Com, and a little bit of your background.

I grew up in Ghana from very humble beginnings. I moved to the US twelve years ago to seek a better life for myself and my family. I was fortunate to get a scholarship to attend Middlebury College in Vermont and got my MBA from the Johns Hopkins University’s Carey Business School. Prior to founding, I worked for Citigroup for 7 years in various roles in Operations, HR, and Compliance.

Wow, that’s an amazing story in itself. So where did the idea of Gift Card Rescue come from?

The idea for Giftcardrescue actually came from a friend, who came to me with a problem I am sure many people are familiar with. He had received gift cards to several stores but since he did not shop at those stores, he wanted to find a way to sell the cards or exchange them for a card he can use. That got my attention, and after doing some research, I realized there was a need in the marketplace for a place where people can unlock the value in their gift cards. That’s how got started.

What has been your vision for Gift Card Rescue and how will winning the Forbes competition help you attain that goal?

My main goal is to make the place of choice for people to unlock the value in their gift cards.

Have you always been an entrepreneur at heart?

I have always had the entrepreneurial bug, which I got watching my mom run her small grocery business to help our family make ends meet.

What advice do you have to other small business owners in this economy?

I think there is a tendency to cut back during a recession, but actually, this may be the time to gain market share. So, while the competition may be pulling back, you should look into boosting your marketing efforts to attract new customers.

What makes Gift Card Rescue the première choice for gift card exchange? has two qualities that differentiate us from the competition:

  • First, most people are hesitant to sell their gift card on auction sites since there is no guarantee the card will sell, and even if it sells, you are not sure how much you will get until the auction ends. Giftcardrescue provides a hassle free way to sell your gift cards since we buy the cards directly from consumers.
  • Second, our customers get their cash faster since we make all payments through PayPal, unlike other sites where you have to wait for a check in the mail, which can take more than two weeks.
